"The Dodo Egg"
2007
Oil and Egg Tempera on Board
5.5 x 7 in (14 x 18cm), not including frame

Human-caused extinctions, past present and future, are a little-explored theme of human history, but one I feel compelled to address in my art. Every day, more of our fellow Earth species are being permanently eradicated. The devastation colors the sea in this painting with blood. The girl in the painting is attempting to rescue the last dodo egg? imagine the preciousness of such an egg! But for her boat, she has only the leftover bones of the slaughtered birds. She will not succeed. Can we?
