I wanted to create a portrait that would honor and capture my
good friend, musician Noga Ariel. I cherish my friend's sensitivity
and imagination. She seems equally comfortable invoking the
distant past or distant future, the macrocosm or the microcosm.
She has the will of a soldier, but her strength stems from her
compassionate, boundless heart. As she is a woman of many lands,
and no land, I thought I would paint in the sea: the realm of
emotion, and timelessness.
