Sandra Stanton

Starting out as a social realist painter 30 years ago, Sandra Stanton's work evolved into themes of classical mythology in a post-nuclear holocaust setting in the early 80's and then into pre-patriarchal Goddess mythology where her interest remains. Her work seeks to expand awareness of other ways of seeing, other mythologies, other world views. All of the paintings are done in oils using a modified Venetian technique widely employed during the Renaissance. She was born in New York City and lived there until moving to rural Maine in 1989. Her work has been widely exhibited and has been published in a number of magazines and books. Under the title of Divine Feminine, her images are published in an annual calendar, a journal and notecards. Thirty-nine of her paintings make up the images for a deck of cards called The Goddess Wisdom Cards.
