O'Sullivan is a native of Killarney, Co. Kerry in Ireland and
trained as an artist in Sligo, specialising in Fine Art. She
currently lives and works in Beaufort, Co. Kerry.
She draws her inspiration for her paintings from deep within
her inner self, where she explores myth, emotion and fantasy,
using a technique known as 'Touch Drawing', which she learned
from the founder of the 'Centre of Touch Drawing', Deborah Koff-Chapin.
The method involves laying tissue paper on to an 'inked' block
board and then drawing on the back of the tissue paper with
one's fingers, feeling and sensing their emotions and then drawing
instinctively. Whilst experimenting with this unique technique,
Helen decided to develop it further by pasting the tissue paper,
with the original inked image, onto a board where she could
then develop it further into a full painting using acrylic paints.
She calls her work 'Soul Painting'.
